Operation Read

Operation Read takes place at six different after school sites in the Quad Cities. Volunteers visit the sites each week and share books with elementary school students as well as engage the students in fun activities related to the books. At the end of each month, children choose a new book to keep. Children are surveyed at the beginning of the year and them again at the end to guage their interest in reading. The program, now completing its second full year, has shown significantly more children listing reading as one of their three favorite activities in post-tests.

Current Operation Read sites:
Garfield Elementary School - Moline
Denkmann Elementary School - Rock Island
Hillcrest Elementary School - East Moline
Scott County Family Y - Davenport
Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Inc. - Davenport
Paul Norton School - Bettendorf
